A standoff has occurred between Collector M Veera Brahmaiah and teachers following the former’s refusal to withdraw an order he issued recently directing the officials concerned to cut two days’ salary for July for the nearly 1,100 teachers.
The Collector has refused to rescind his order despite repeated appeals by the leaders of the teachers’ union. He was not convinced by their explanation that the teachers were unable to attend to the election duties due to some genuine reasons. He also rejected their plea to pardon the errant teachers.
With Brahmaiah unrelenting, the teachers’ union took up the issue with Civil Supplies Minister D Sridhar Babu and also met MLC T Santhosh Kumar. At the minister’s behest, they tried to meet the Collector on Saturday but he refused.
